Dora Says The Battle Of Petra Must Have Been Impressive
Dear Readers,
Edward describes the Battle of Petra vividly. I see the Bedouins hiding behind boulders. I see the Bedouin women hiding among the rocks above the Siq waiting for the Turks and Germans to march in. Planes fly overhead in the darkness which is almost dawn. Bombs are exploding outside the town where Lawrence is concealed. It sounds more suspenseful than the sinking of the Lusitania.
It makes me anxious. I guess Edward must have survived the battle because he is writing to me. But what has happened to him by now? It must be months later. He was writing in 1917. It is now 1918. Anything could have happened.
Sincerely yours,
Dora Benley
P.S. Read about Petra and more in the first volume of my memoirs, King Abdullah's Tomb.
