Dora Says Edward Could Not Just Disappear

Dear Readers,

Edward could not just disappear into the Syrian Desert without a trace anymore than I could have disappeared on the Lusitania. For one thing, he's not an Arab. He doesn't look like an Arab. He has very fair skin and the reddest hair you've ever seen. Someone would see him on the caravan routes. Someone would comment. Word of mouth would get around the desert and to the towns and cities. Someone who is British would be bound to hear the gossip --- especially since Edward was Lawrence of Arabia's adjutant and an officer in the British army.

I'm surprised I haven't heard from somebody I don't even know writing to me because they've heard something or better yet have seen something. Maybe I should offer a reward that would lead to finding him --- dead or alive.

Sincerely yours,

Dora Benley
P.S. Did anyone ever write to me about Edward? You must read the first volume of my memoirs, King Abdullah's Tomb.
